ICCAMNET is an International Network of Universities, Research Institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations involved in Capacity Building and Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for Food Security. The overall objective of this network is to build capacity and carry out research to reduce the negative impacts of climate change on food security by adapting to the changes and developing mitigation processes. The network will achieve this through - Identification of the links that join agriculture, the climate and food security in order to develop capacity to enhance adaptability and mitigation of negative effects of climate change.
- Development of high impact and strategically chosen pilot projects to improve institutional capacity for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
- Arrangement of a high level conference (HLC) on Global Climate Change Adaptation and mitigation to identify the number of interested members and from the member groups identify expert groups to deal with key climate change issues.
- Development of a data bank with all bio-information of network members.
- Creation of an interactive and fast e-communication medium to address arising issues for faster communication. Establishment of group e-mail systems will be a priority to establish a faster communication mechanism.
- Organization of conferences, seminars as short and medium courses.
- Arrangement for visits to ICCAMNET member institutions inform of exchange programs to better the networking cohesion among member groups.
- Post news on relevant conference, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, curricula development in the university to the website to be available to members.
- Coordinate proposal writing among the expert groups and forwarding to relevant funding bodies. Similarly identification of potential funding bodies to finance the proposals.
- Establish a round the clock system for consultation among the expert groups on issues related to the research, conferences, workshops, exhibitions and arising issues.
- Development of a network of communication between the academia experts and the local and indigenous people about issues on climate change, its mitigation and adaptation to changing scenarios.
- Develop forums to discuss the dilemma of food security vis-à-vis contribution of agriculture to GHG emissions in intensive production.
